Flower Power

Flowers are a work of art, they make any space stand out with rich colours and textures.  When selecting flowers for your wedding or event, make sure you research their availability during the season.  If you have your mind set on a particular flower that’s not in season, remember that you would probably pay more for it and it might be harder to obtain or maintain.  Below is a list of some of the popular choices and their seasons.

Winter Trends 2009-2010

Juli'sGardenpic1

Now that we’re emerging from a global financial   crisis we’ll be greeting the new year with the newest   of trends.  The colours for winter 2009/2010 consists of midnight blues, purples and violets, deep pinks, earth tones and charcoal greys.  Brown with tones of green create a stunning combination.  Scarlets and oranges with greys is another powerful combination this year.   Some of the trends for winter include: draping and layering, cloaks, print leggings, one shoulder tops and dresses, over the knee boots, animal prints, leather, military jackets and the big shoulders are back!  Black and white is always a safe bet and never out of style.

You’re Invited!

T he one thing that gets me going about weddings are invitations.

They literally set the mood! If I receive a great invitation I absolutely know that what is to come is going to be fab!

Lately, it seems that brides are getting more creative with their weddings and why not start with the invitations. I have seen everything from cd teasers to hand delivered scrolls. It’s great to see that brides understand that the day is about that them and that there is no need to copy what they’ve seen in the past. I love it when they truly make their day “theirs”.

One of my favorite invitation designers is Lisa Hoffman of Ceci New York. Her invitations are truly a work of art!

Another great company I love to watch is Hello Lucky based out of the U.K they really do push the envelope and create lots of fun and whimsical designs.

Whatever your choice maybe be sure to go 100% original! When you look back you’ll be glad you did!

Letter to MOB ( Mother of the bride)

Congratulations! Your little girl is getting married. But being the mother of the bride (or MOB) is not an easy role – not only is it a big job, but a job that has changed significantly over the years.

Once upon a time mothers of the bride did most of the wedding planning (sometimes they still do), and thus got to have their own dreams realized. These days, your daughter will probably have her own vision – which may differ drastically with yours. Here’s how to play your role with pizaaz! As someone who was recently married I have some tips to share to make your daughters day as smooth as possible, and some cute outfit ideas as well.

  • Choose your mother-of-the-bride dress as soon as possible, then let the groom’s mother know what you have picked. If possible, send her a swatch of the fabric and/or pictures so that she can look for a gown that will compliment yours.
  • Discuss the wedding budget with your daughter and her fiancé, including what you are willing to pay for, and the ideal total number of guests
  • Quickly draw up the guest list for your side of the family, and later, close to the date of the wedding, call any of your guests who are late in RSVPing. I cannot stress how important this detail is…
  • Help spread the word about where the couple are registered. Unless you want your daughter to get the same sheet set 5 times…
  • Act as hostess at the wedding and reception, making sure guests are comfortable. This also includes standing in the receiving line, sitting at the parents table, and making sure the bride has greeted all her guests.
  • Help your daughter with any other details she asks you to!
  •

Now for the fun part… Here are some cute ideas for you!
